Silent Encounter

With this piece I wanted to communicate an eerie and mystical mood. To achieve this I took inspiration from oil-painters during the Baroque-era, using a technique called Chiaroscuro, although to a lesser degree. In it's simplicity it's all about using the lights and darks to your advantage compositionally. I am quite happy with this piece but I would have added more detail in and around the crashed carriage if I had time. It was a challenge to paint a night scene with dimmed lights in a winter environment.

The whistling breeze didn't help the situation.
